The national qualifying round for the III Interschool Astronomy Olympiad, commemorating the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was successfully conducted.

The III Interschool Astronomy Olympiad took place with the principal sponsorship of the Tusi-Bohm Planetarium, which stands as the sole planetarium in the South Caucasus and is situated within the "Park Bulvar" shopping mall.

On May 14, the national qualifying round of the III Interschool Astronomy Olympiad, commemorating the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, was conducted at Baku State University (BSU).

During the competition, students from the ninth to the eleventh grades of general educational institutions put their knowledge and skills in astronomy to the test. In contrast to previous years, the registration counts this year reached a total of 592 students. The primary objectives behind organizing the Olympiad are to stimulate students' interest in the field of astronomy, to advocate for a broader inclusion of astronomy within the educational system, and to facilitate the preparation of the winners for participation in the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad.

The organization of the Olympiad was a collaborative effort involving Baku State University, the Educational Institute of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi, the Republican Children and Youth Development Center, and the Astronomy Education Department of the International Astronomical Union. The winners will receive medals and prizes, and they will have the opportunity to participate in preparatory classes for the XVI International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad scheduled to take place in Poland on August 10-20 this year.

The outcomes of the national selection round will be announced in the forthcoming days on the olympiad.edu.az portal and the official websites of the organizing entities.
